Buck had a terrible accident yesterday. He was out for his nightly walk with Kona and Sitka and while Brooke was attempting to get the very cold Sitka into the car, Buck caught the smell of a dead deer and wandered out into the middle of the road and was sadly hit by a truck. He was immediately rushed to the emergency vet in Calgary and as a result of the accident, he has a collapsed lung and has broken both of the humerus' in his front legs. Due to the severity of the fractures, the vet informed us that he will need surgery on both of his legs. She then advised us to transfer him to an orthopaedic surgeon so late last night, we transferred him to the Southern Alberta Veterinary Emergency (SAVE) clinic and are waiting to hear from the surgeon there.
Based on what the vet explained to us last night, we are looking at anywhere from $8-12,000 for the surgery alone and an additional, $2-3000 for regular vet costs. With the $1000 bill that we already paid last night to the first emergency vet, we are looking at anywhere from $11,000-16,000 in vet bills.
As a 21 year old student who works at a ranch part-time, Brooke doesn't have the money to pay for these bills and hates to ask anyone for money but she is desperate. Any money received to help with hospital fees, treatments, recovery, etc., would be amazing and so helpful.
We will keep try to keep you up to date with what's going on with Buck and are so thankful and appreciative of your help in getting Buck home and on the way to recovery.
