Hi! I'm Katt Hansen and I'm raising funds to help with expenses while my husband, Dale, who suffered a fall in August and has been having many health challenges since.
UPDATE FOR OCTOBER 2025: This has continued to lead to new problems. While in the hospital for 45 days as part of his recovery, Dale developed sores on his foot and leg due to poor blood pressure. This has escalated to the point where now he's in danger of losing toes, the foot, or possibly even the leg. We are asking again for help as we travel to Mayo Clinic. Hopefully there we will find the help we need. Please see the longer update below for more details. Thank you!

ORIGINAL POST: On Tuesday, August 5, Dale suffered a fall while bringing the garbage can up from the curb. He hit the car and then the concrete, breaking both his left arm and his left hip. Since then he's been laid up, the start of what's going to be a very long recovery.
The challenge is that Dale is on peritoneal dialysis, which is better for his heart and keeps him in a better position for transplant (we have a willing kidney donor — yay!). The hospital, however, will not provide peritoneal dialysis because the nurses aren’t trained to administer it.
To keep him off hemodialysis, I’ve been there every night setting up his dialysis — bringing in supplies, managing the machine, troubleshooting, and tracking reports.
In short, this means I can't go home.
I am staying in Beacon House, a place connected to the hospital which offers housing and food for free (a donation if you can manage it) until the 16th, at which point my time there runs out. I am not able to work at this time except in a very limited capacity. There are still expenses which need to be managed - gas for example, and occasional food as i can't always eat the food offered at Beacon House safely due to my own health problems.
Right now we could use a little help to cover these small expenses and get through the next week or two. They were talking about Dale needing anywhere from 9-15 days of being in the hospital / rehab yet. I'm going to do my best to get my own work done for my clients, but I could use whatever assistance you can provide as we go through this situation.
I'm really proud of Dale for the way he's fighting to get back to health. He stood up today for the first time (on August 12) and though it was only for a few seconds, it's a start. I'm also proud of my family who are doing everything they can to help. My youngest (age 23) has been a godsend- jumping in to learn how to give my little dog his insulin shots (he was diagnosed diabetic just days before Dale fell), and even the oldest (high functioning autistic) has stepped up and done well beyond what I ever thought they were capable of. We are very blessed.
Now we're hoping for just a bit more to help us through this rough patch. The electric bill just came out and wiped us out, so I'm asking for just a little bit more knowing the phone bill is next, which is so important as we need to be able to keep in touch through this. This would be what you're funding if you choose to help:
- Gas to/from Munising a few times ($15 each trip)
- Food supplements for days when Beacon House meals aren’t safe for me
- Part of the phone bill so Dale and I can stay in contact
- Small incidentals like laundry ($1.50 per load for washer/dryer)
Thank you for whatever you can give, and God bless!
