Our Friends Need Our Help

Hi, my name is Mary Jane (DeLaiarro) Mendes from the King Philip High School Class of 1981. I’m reaching out because two of our classmates can use our help.

Paula Dolan and Donald Nason were sweethearts in 6th grade. Over the next 6 years, they remained friends and graduated high school together. Like many young adults, they went their separate ways after high school. After several decades, marriages, children, and divorces, their paths crossed again. This time, Paula was living in Massachusetts and Donald in Vermont. They rekindled their love and Donald and his brave companion, German Shepherd, Max, relocated to be with Paula.

Life was beginning to read just like a love story until Donald was diagnosed with lung cancer and a recent biopsy discovered brain cancer and a fungal infection also. The infection has been difficult to treat, which is causing a delay in treating the cancer.

As you can imagine, the medical and general bills are piling up. Donald can no longer work and Paula continues to work, but takes time off to attend Donald’s appointments with him.

Having cancer and caring for one with cancer can be very stressful. Your donation can help relieve some of this stress so that Paula and Donald can concentrate on their time together.
