I watched a video of the World Championships at my first vaulting lesson and seven years later, I can’t believe I have a shot at competing the Junior World Championships!I first started vaulting when I lived in New South Wales. This is where I fell I love with the sport. After just over a year of vaulting in NSW my family moved to Western Australia where I found it a lot harder to progress. There was a serious lack of canter horses and I had no-one to coach me for a period of time. I trained at two RDA centres in WA where I made many friends and really enjoyed helping train horses and vault with the lovely RDA kids, it really inspired me. I made friends with some South Australian Vaulters at the National Vaulting Workshop held in Canberra, where they welcomed me to stay and vault with them at any time. We took this opportunity and I travelled to South Australia by myself from 13 years of age, to take part in a number of clinics and competitions, including the National Vaulting Championships in Adelaide in 2012. In 2013 I competed in my first CVIJ*, before I travelled I promised my coach in SA that I would practise my routine 1000 times on the barrel (44 gallon drum on legs) which I did! I didn’t have a vaulting horse in WA so the only practise I got was in the warm up ring at the CVI in Adelaide! I was really happy with my performance and ended up placing 3rd and missing out on a qualifying score for CVI** by 0.1! It was after this CVI that my family decided to move to South Australia so I could continue to better my vaulting, where I was actually able to practise on a horse! Since the move in 2013 I have competed at three CVI’s and two National Championships. In 2013 I placed 2nd in the CVIJ* in Sydney, in 2014 I had a very successful CVI where I placed 2nd and qualified for CVI** by 0.5! At the end of 2014 I competed at the Sydney CVI*** where my horse unfortunately wasn’t able to compete due to lameness, so I had to change horses last minute, which was a big change for me. Despite this mental challenge I ended up 3rd in the CVIJ**. In October 2014 I competed in my first ‘advanced’ class at the National Vaulting Championships in Adelaide. I went in with no expectations of myself and I ended up placing 2nd in the advanced! I was ecstatic with the outcome of gaining a score of 6.8 which gave me a tremendous and much needed confidence boost. Since January 2015 I have been putting all my focus into completing year 12 to a high standard, but also to train with Team Zelos in NSW or QLD on weekends, in hope to compete in the 2015 World Vaulting Championships for Juniors.
