Hi, my name is Anessa Murray. I’m a 19-year-old college student attending Rowan University as a Psychology and Social Work major. My dream? To become a social worker to be the voice of the many neglected and abused children.

Growing up in a small town in New Jersey, life was far from easy. I was raised by a single mother of 5, who did everything she could for us with no help. With my father not being present, we faced constant instability—moving frequently, bills piling up, and never having the things others took for granted. During these times, the only thing I could do was to have hope. Hope that one day I’d make it to college. Hope that I could be the first in my family to earn a degree. Hope that I could help my family financially.

Despite the obstacles, I stayed focused. I worked hard in school, community service, and sports. I’ve uplifted others when I could while working to uplift myself as well.

Now that I’ve been blessed with the chance to attend college, the financial burden is heavy. Due to a mistake on my behalf by missing a step on my checklist, I’m left with $11,710.00 to pay off before I can continue during the spring 2026 semester in January. I’ve tried everything—scholarships, loans, and grants—with no good news. That’s why I’m reaching out to you.

This isn’t about me. It’s about breaking the generational cycle of child abuse. It’s about building hope. It’s about protecting those who cannot protect themselves.
