Help Alan Rebuild His Life
Donation protected
In an instant, Alan Johnston’s life changed forever. One moment he was riding a mountain bike with his son, and the next he was lying on his back, unable to move. Alan broke his neck and is paralyzed in his hands and from the chest down.
After the accident, Alan spent 2 ½ weeks in the ICU in Detroit, before transferring by air ambulance to Craig Hospital in Englewood, CO. Craig is one of the top spinal rehabilitation hospitals in the country.

There have been many advances in technology that hopefully will give Alan his independence again. We’re just beginning to learn what those things are. While we remain hopeful that he will regain some of his lost motor function, the reality is that Alan faces a long road to recovery. Alan has many things that he’s going to have to figure out. Wouldn’t it be amazing if figuring out how to pay for all of those things wasn’t something that he had to worry about? At a minimum, Alan is going to require extensive home modifications, a handicap accessible vehicle, and numerous household items for his new life.

Our goal is to get Alan back to doing the activities that he enjoys and leading an independent life. Alan enjoys fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, hiking in Enchanted Rock, traveling to new places, and spending time with friends and family. If ever there is a gathering in some far-off location, you can count on Alan to show up and put together an amazing spread of appetizers! Alan is always the first to show up when somebody needs help. Alan could use a little help right now. Sometimes it takes an entire village to help one of its members put their life back together. No amount is too small. Thank you for your love and support!
Update 3/4/25: Alan has transferred to a sub-acute care facility in Des Moines called On With Life. He is actively working on developing the skills needed to live semi-autonomously. His general health has improved, but he hasn't had any improvement in his neurological function. His long-term goal is to return to San Antonio. With the tools that your loving donations enable him to acquire, he hopes to make that a reality later this year!
