My husband is currently in Sunshine Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. Just three days ago, he was in a medically induced coma and on life support. He is now on dialysis, with his liver and kidneys failing. He is receiving blood transfusions and is battling Hepatitis B, cirrhosis, influenza, and severe cellulitis in his legs. Every day is critical, and we are holding onto hope.
Over the past few months, my husband had been making positive changes for his health, including staying alcohol-free for the past 48 days as of Thursday 7/8. Until this sudden health crisis, he was our family’s main provider, working as a nightshift team manager—a role he took great pride in and where he was highly respected by his team.
Earlier this year, his health began to decline. One night while on shift, feeling unwell and struggling with pain in his legs, he rested briefly in the first aid room after letting a supervisor know. This led to a period of leave while workplace investigations and medical clearances were carried out. Although he was later cleared of any wrongdoing and moved to a day shift, the months of uncertainty and isolation took a toll on his wellbeing.
Unfortunately, ongoing issues with his legs meant he couldn’t pass a medical assessment, leading to more unpaid leave. Not long after, his health deteriorated drastically, bringing us to where we are today—machines helping him fight for his life.
I work casually, but my income barely covers rent, bills, debts, and food. I can’t access Centrelink due to an existing debt, and because everything is in my husband’s name, I’m only now able to start calling around to contacts and act on his behalf as he is now able to speak, very minimal but able to. Our families have been helping as much as they can, but we are now in urgent need of extra support, for our cost of living and our three boys!
If you can, please consider donating—no matter how small, it would mean the world to us. If you can’t donate, please share our GoFundMe with your friends, family, and community. Every share means more eyes, more compassion, and more hope.
I am placing my trust in God and finding strength in my faith each day.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, prayers, and support during this incredibly difficult time. ❤️
Trish
