My dad's last wish

Donation protected

It hurts my heart to share but my dad was recently placed into hospice care on March 20, 2023. He has been battling with cancer, among other illnesses, and the doctor said his organs were suddenly no longer responding to treatment. Our entire family came home in a rush this past week to see him and have the opportunity to say goodbye, as well as support my mom through this difficult process. It hasn't been easy to say the least.

My dad's wish was to spend the last of his days at home with my mom, so he is currently settled into our home as comfortably as possible with occasional visits from the hospice nurses. My mom has taken time off work since his health declined drastically a couple weeks prior and she's currently looking to ask for more time off to become my dad's primary caregiver for as long as she's able to. Both my parents live off of my mom's income and unfortunately our family cannot afford to hire a caregiver.

My dad currently requires 24/7 care and we found it financially best for my mom to fill the role as it is a fraction of the cost of hiring outside care. Not only that, but for my dad's comfort as well since he has a speech impediment from a previous stroke and is not comfortable communicating with others. My mom's PTO has depleted and she is currently on Family Emergency Leave of Absence without pay. She works a humble hourly job at the St. Lukes Hospital cafeteria and we're hoping to use the funds generated from this platform to help support her for the next month or so to cover necessities such as house bills, medical bills, groceries, and other living costs while she is out of work. We are also preparing for the financial obligations post my dad's passing.

We are currently relying on friends and family to take time off work and travel into town in order to help my parents, which we have found to be unsustainable. My mom's cafeteria coworkers are also generously attempting to organize potentially donating some of their PTO to her in her absence.
We are immensely grateful to those who have contributed their time, money, and efforts during this heavy process. And to those donating to this, we thank you.

We are organizing this on behalf of my mom while she is grieving. Even if you are not able to donate, please send her and my dad your love if you have a way of contact. Thank you again.
