From Kyle Wagner, Executive Director of the Kindness Duck Project -
I was born and raised in Uvalde. My parents and grandparents live here. I spent my first 18 years here, and we take our kids back often to spend time with family. I’ve personally seen this community persevere through thick and thin.
This…this is a different level. This is a pain no one should endure. What these people, these families, this community needs right now is love. Love. Care. Kindness. Help. Anything. Everything.
As I sit here wiping the tears off of my phone, I keep asking myself, “What can I do? What can we do?” And I cry more. Because I don’t know. In talking to our Board, we’re all in the same boat, as I’m sure many of you are. There is not a right answer here. Many parents were coaxing their kids out of bed this morning saying, “It’s only a couple more days until summer, honey. Just a couple more days of school. You can do this.” They did nothing wrong, parents nor children. Yet here we are. These people, these families, this community needs support, love, kindness, and hope more than ever before. The Kindness Duck Project is launching a fundraiser - right here, right now - to help these families and this community. Our first and primary goal is to provide funds for funeral expenses for the victims of this horrific tragedy. No one should have to endure this alone. #UvaldeStrong #KindnessDuck #peace #hope #love #kindness
