Summary: Sugarcoated is a year-long film project currently in production at Penn State University. We are creating this film to examine themes of domestic abuse within the Latino(a) American community--a historically underrepresented demographic in mainstream American cinema--through the platform of a narrative film.
Most of the money raised for this film will be going towards craft services (meals and beverages for actors and crew), set dressing to turn potential locations into the sets we envision for the story, and props.
Film Premise: The story of Sugarcoated focuses on Detective Veronica Cruz as she embarks on a missing person’s case that’s not exactly what it seems and hits too close to home. For more information on the story, the cast and crew behind it, and more, please check out this film's website here!
Goals and Contributions: Our goals for this film is to raise awareness for domestic violence and the potential signs of domestic violence and the importance of it being stopped. To help us achieve this goal, we have teamed up with CentreSafe here in State College: a resource center that helps empower survivors of domestic violence.
For every $300 we raise for Sugarcoated, we will be donating $100 back to CentreSafe to help them achieve their goal. We will be donating this amount either directly in cash or in a list of approved materials they have provided us.
