While my peers and I hosted the Texas United Nations International Youth Day (see picture), we learned from Kushal Ramyad, Chief of Human Resources and Resident Coordinator System at the UN, that there has never been a Texas group to attend the UN General Assembly. We decided to change that. In light of this, we are spearheading plans to take 18 teens to the 2025 UN General Assembly in NYC, September 23rd-26th—the first-ever Texan youth delegation!
During this time, we will be holding exclusive meetings, engaging with global leaders, and becoming accredited official UN Delegates.
Global political issues today are the ones we will inherit, and they inform how we view the world. In line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, we will provide youth perspectives on themes such as sustainable energy, accessible technology, and cultural understanding. In addition, this group directly aligns with the U.S. Mission’s initiative to bring youth voices and engagement into the United Nations.
Why me?
1) I'm motivated and respectful—I have worked in multiple professional settings, including interning at a law firm and leading teams at a museum, speech club, and school.
2) I have demonstrated initiative and understanding in politics and government—
- I’m a policy debater, having taken first place at ASDA nationals and serving as policy debate president at my club.
- Last year, I attended Washington Week, where I had the opportunity to meet with figures on Capitol Hill and discuss the pressing issues of this generation.
- This year, I attended a seminar at Princeton University on government and the Constitution, where I learned about the history behind our fight for a global political standing.
- This coming fall, I’ll be working with the Texas Public Policy Foundation on new local initiatives.
3) I'm eager to learn more about international relations! In college, I plan to study and engage in fields such as government and policy. The lessons I learn from this UN General Assembly will inform my future development in these related fields.
Funding youth representatives is investing in meaningful development on a local, national, and even global level.
