In 2014 my husband and I were blessed with our first born, Harley. Harley is a giggler, cart-wheeler, faithful friend, loving big sister, who always finds the beauty in everything. Harley is one of our greatest treasures and we are pursuing finding her healing!
After a happy, healthy first five years Harley started having bouts of extreme behavior. She began lashing out, impulsively running away, throwing violent tantrums in public and at home, and struggling in social settings. After some testing, she was diagnosed with an auto immune disease called Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Additional testing revealed that she also has ADHD, learning disabilities and anxiety. She even repeated kindergarten because of her difficulty with concentration and academic development. Despite trying multiple medications and behavioral therapies, it has been a continual struggle to get these issues under control. We didn’t imagine that her struggle would get worse.
At a recent check-up, Harley's endocrinologist became concerned to discover she'd lost weight, had not grown in the last 6 months, and was measuring in the first percentile. After x-rays, a brutal 4 hour growth hormone test, and an MRI of her pituitary gland, it was confirmed Harley's body is not producing the proper amount growth hormones. Her endocrinologist said that in order for Harley to continue to grow properly she would need to begin growth hormone injections six times a week until she is “done growing”. The potential side effects of both doing and/or not doing these shots has our family feeling extremely stressed and uncertain. We believe God can heal Harley and want to explore every possible option to find whole body healing vs just treating the symptoms.
Through recommendation and research, my husband and I found a Pediatric Specialist in California that has had success taking a holistic approach to autoimmune disorders in children. She wants to analyze the possible connection between Harley’s thyroid and pituitary issues and see if there are any alternatives to the costly and potentially life-altering side effects of years of growth hormone therapy. We have also found a brain specialist there that has had amazing results helping children with ADHD.
We are seeking assistance to travel to see these physicians for Harley’s evaluation, treatment, and any additional testing or costs. They both require initial in-person analysis, but can see her remotely moving forward. Ultimately, we will do whatever is necessary to help her, but we are hoping to find the least life-altering, most life-giving path for our precious daughter. Any type of support, including prayer, would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you kindly,
The Davila's
