I would like to tell you about my dear friend Colleen. Colleen has a beautiful family consisting of her husband Gary, daughter Isabella, and son Frank. Three years ago her husband Gary was diagnosed with crohn's disease
and several times a year Gary is
given infusions that are equivalent to chemotherapy to keep his crohn's under control. Colleen and Gary's son Frank was diagnosed with autism and other rare developmental syndromes at the age of two. Frank also underwent brain surgery when he was 2 years old. Frank is now eleven and he requires a great deal of care around the clock. Four years ago on December 26th, Gary and Colleen had a catastrophic house fire . They lost everything. None of these events have stopped them. They are a true testament to the human spirit, love and hope. Throughout everything this family has maintained a positive outlook on life and have moved forward. They are still trying to rebuild their home while living in a 500 square foot outbuilding on their property. On Saturday May 9th, Colleen and Isabella were involved in a very serious car accident due to
a careless driver who ran a red light. Their car was totaled and they were both hospitalized as a result. Colleen has five broken vertebrae in her back and neck and may have to undergo surgery. She is in a body brace 24/7. She is not allowed to perform even the smallest of tasks. Colleen is Frank’s primary caregiver and can no longer provide the necessary care that is required. Their insurance will not cover care for Frank. All of these challenges in their lives have created great financial burdens and with this most recent challenge of Colleen's accident, these burdens have become unmanageable. After reading this, I hope everyone can take time and reflect on the good fortune they have had in their lives and generously bestow a gift of money to Colleen and Gary's family. Even the smallest amount will be highly appreciated.
