MCLA National Championships 2014

Every year the University of Texas Men's Lacrosse team competes within the LSA in hopes of reaching the MCLA national championship tournament. Every year for the past 3 years we have fulfilled that hope. However, due to the lack of a competitive out of conference schedule we are usually seeded bottom 3 in the 16 team format in the tournament leading to a first round defeat. While that is not an excuse for our performance at the tournament, it highlights our need for a more competitive schedule to gauge our true ability. The higher ranked teams are located along the West Coast and in the North East. Travel and stay for up to 35 athletes and coaches on multiple weekends a season can grow to be rather expensive. Our dues, revenue from team UT team sponsored and run youth tournament, and school funded finances only take us so far.

For the 2014 season the Longhorns are scheduled to play Colorado State University, University of Colorado, Oregon and Oregon State University. Colorado State and Colorado played for the 2013 national championship with Colorado State taking home the title. We played the University of Colorado in the first round of the tournament losing 13-9. Oregon finished the year ranked #6 while the Beavers of OSU finished out the season at #15. We finished the season ranked #11.

With an improved out of conference schedule we can show the rest of the MCLA that we are serious about lacrosse and can justify a higher seeding. Depending on our successes throughout the season we could end up as high as a top 5 seed. Whatever seed we do get will be justified and the seeding committee will have to acknowledge our improved out of conference schedule. It will not be because of lack of competition or lack of trying.

With your charitable donation we could make these things happen and really change the future of Texas Lacrosse. Thank you for taking the time for reading this and for your consideration of a donation. To donate simply click Donate! at the top right of the page.
