Help Me Get Gender-Affirming Surgery (and Grab Some Fun Art While You’re At It!)
I’m Simon — queer artist, small business owner, and professional dad-joke enthusiast. I’m reaching out because I need your help to make a huge step toward feeling truly safe and at home in my body.
I’m scheduled for my hysterectomy on December 4th, but between the ongoing government mess (which has complicated my food stamp access) and unstable housing (I’m crashing on a friend’s couch for a little while), I’m struggling to cover the costs. I was going to wait until I was in a more financially stable situation, but the current political climate has made that too risky.
If access to hormones gets restricted, this surgery becomes even more important — it’s one thing they can’t take away. No one deserves to live with the constant anxiety of losing gender-affirming care. Or, let’s be real, with the nightmare that is menstruation. Time to yeet this ute! (I promise, I'll stop making that joke. Eventually.)
What I Need
According to Google, hysterectomies can cost anywhere from $6,000–$13,000 (although the price tag at Intermountain could be higher--they still haven't contacted me for their good faith estimate) not including recovery time, lost income, or emergency expenses. Insurance might come through, but right now I haven’t heard anything — and the clock is ticking.
Even if Medicaid covers some of it, I’ll still need funds to recover safely. Once I know I’m in the clear, anything extra will go toward helping my friend with his top surgery fund (link: Theo's Essential Gender Affirming Surgery).
How You Can Help
I struggle to ask for handouts, so I want to give something back! Obviously regular donations are welcome, but if you want something out of the deal, you can just buy some of my art! I make:
- Nerdy, classical-style portraits & postcards
- Origami earrings (made from real paper!)

Why It Matters
Your donation isn’t just helping me afford surgery — it’s helping me reclaim my body, my health, and my peace of mind. Every dollar, every share, and every kind word brings me one step closer to living without fear and with a whole lot more comfort (and the cringiest of dad jokes).
Thank you so much for helping in my journey,
Simon
