For those of you who have never had the pleasure of meeting Katie Sherman (my closest and dearest friend) Please take a moment out of your hectic day to hear her story...
I've known Katie since freshmen year of High School. We do not need to discuss how many years that is! Since then she has been nothing but a loyal, selfless, fun, outgoing light in my life. Those needle in a hay stack kind of people. She will give you the shirt off her back and do it graciously with a smile.
In 2012 Katie's world got turned upside down. She was diagnosed with a terrible medical condition called rheumatoid arthritis. I for one had no idea what this meant. I always assumed arthritis was something you could get in old age. I had no clue
how intense, painful and crippling it could be. Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disorder affecting many joints, including those in the hands and feet. It is incurable and may last a lifetime.
Since Katie's diagnosis her condition has gotten progressively worse. She is now almost completely immobile. Walking is nearly impossible without a walker, she is under 24/7 care by her mother and has undergone numerous amounts of treatments including infusions weekly which leave her physically exhausted and weak. She is on a ton of medications that have yet to even slightly improve her condition.
Katie has always worked and supported herself. She is now unable to do so. Some days she isn't even able to get out of bed. The government has refused to grant her social security and she was evicted from her apartment, because she could no longer afford her rent. Katie is now in massive debt due to medical bills, utilities bills, etc. This 30 year old young woman who once was an avid softball player, cannot even take a stroll in a park if she wanted to.
I'm asking for help. No donation is to small. Katie is an extremely prideful person and I know her being in such a state is now taking a toll on her mentally and emotionally as well as physically.
