Kevin's Cancer Journey
Donation protected
On April 2, 2024, we received the most unexpected news: our rock and patriarch, Kevin Fetterman was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic liver cancer, carcinoma of unknown primary source (CUP). This cancer is not curable and right now, not able to be treated due to its unknown origin and fragile nature of the liver.
After the gut-wrenching appointment of hearing of this diagnosis, Kevin went home where he became extremely pale and confused. His wife called their daughter, Jessica who took him to the hospital because his calcium levels were at 13.6 (14 is comatose and cardiac arrest levels). At the hospital, the family advocated to have him admitted so his calcium could be monitored and medication could be prescribed (insurance has been a beast—they have denied PET scan and the calcium medication that Kevin needs). The night was very scary, as Kevin was in a lot of pain and had lots of confusion, but this morning, Wednesday, April 3 brings us a day of new hope and restored faith as his numbers look better. Today will bring more tests to try to determine the type of cancer, medication to continue to stabilize the his vitals, and **hopefully** transfer to the IU cancer center for specific treatment.
Kevin’s family means everything to him. He enjoys sharing all the stories about his childhood and life experiences. He was by his mother’s side as she battled cancer. He has shown up for loved ones throughout his life and now we want to show him the same love and support. He met his wife, Tamara (Tami) Fetterman, when she was just 15 years old as high school students in Sioux City, Iowa. They married shortly after and have been by each other’s side for the last 43 years. Their marriage has brought many happy memories and milestones including their 3 wonderful children and their spouses—Jessica(Brad), Kyle(Margo), and Kevin (Caitlin). Besides being a loving father, Kevin’s heart is filled with love for his grandchildren (Aidan, Carter, Greta, Logan, Jace, Soren, and June). He is actively involved in their lives and they adore him.
It is hard to adequetly put into words what Kevin means to so many people: his family, friends, colleagues, sports fan...he has never met a stranger.
Kevin has spent years tirelessly serving his community in various roles. Whether it's through his profession, where he consistently goes above and beyond for his colleagues and clients, or his passion for sports officiating, where he ensures fair play and sportsmanship prevail, Kevin's commitment to others is unwavering.
Medical expenses have accumulated due to these unforeseen health issues, and they are struggling to cover these costs while also managing their daily expenses.
Despite facing these difficulties, Kevin continues to radiate positivity and resilience. He remains steadfast in his faith with God, commitment to his family and community, never allowing his own struggles to dampen his spirit.
That's why we are reaching out to you today. We believe in the power of prayer, community, and the impact that small acts of kindness can have on someone's life. By coming together and offering our support, we can help alleviate some of the financial burdens weighing on Kevin and his family.
Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference. It will provide much-needed relief and allow Kevin to focus on what matters most – his health, his family, and his passion for serving others.
Thank you for taking the time to read Kevin's story. Your generosity and support mean the world to him and his family.
