Help Jesse kick cancer in the balls
There has been an overwhelming amount of people reaching out to Jesse asking to send donations, gift cards, and asking about a go fund me page. After some discussion, we decided to do a page for those who are able and wanting to give to support Jesse and his fight with cancer. Jesse is a 30 year old Doverite, who has a 10 year old son, Wyatt. Jesse is a son, a brother, an uncle and a friend. Jesse is most well know for being the hairiest Wilson who brings laughter wherever he goes. Jesse has a heart of gold, and I truly wish there was more we could do to alleviate his struggles.
For those who may not know Jesse’s story, please read about it below.
The morning of February 21st 2020 I received a shocking phone call-Jesse was at Brantford General, he had cancer and he was going to be having surgery today. It all happened so fast, we were all in Complete shock. Once we were all at the hospital, the doctor filled us in, I could not believe it, my 29 year old brother had testicular cancer. We came to later find out that Jesse actually has 4 different strains of cancer, one being seminoma. First step was an orchiectomy to remove the testicle, and pray it the cancer hadn’t spread.
The surgery was a success, and in true Jesse nature he was cracking jokes afterwards.
A plan was created for chemotherapy once he had healed, and even though our family was an emotional mess, we were on track to healing.
Then the virus hit… $@#*
Due to the risks of the coronavirus and the depletion of the immune system once his treatments would start, medical professionals decided that they would delay the start of treatment. So, from March until September we waited. We watched as Jesse’s health slowly declined, but not enough to be reconsidered for treatment. We watched as Jesse struggled financially not being able to work. Jesse had started a new job before this, so when he went off work, he hadn’t been with the company long enough to have medical benefits… which he really could have used in this situation. During these months Jesse has given up his vehicle and is relying on family to provide the support he is needing.
In September, things took a turn for Jesse. He had been saying for weeks that he didn’t feel well, and finally tests reflected that. Jesse’s count increased by over 30 in one month’s span. This meant that the cancer was growing and growing quickly. Finally, Jesse was getting the medical attention he needed, and treatment was back on the table. The level of anger, sadness, and frustration was incredible—because of pandemic and the wait for treatment, Jesse’s cancer had spread into his lymph nodes.
The types of cancer are aggressive, but the doctors are optimistic that with an equally aggressive treatment plan the cancer will be eradicated.
Jesse is currently beginning cycle 2 of his 3 cycles of treatment. Fortunately, he looks just as good bald as he does with his signature hairy mane. Jesse is showing many symptoms of treatment effects, some days are really rough but is managing to stay hopeful and strong. There is still a long road ahead, once these cycles are complete there will do more testing to ensure the masses in the lymph nodes are gone. There could be more treatments, more surgery, and there will definitely be more months of recovery.
2020 is not the year to be going through something as major as this. Our goal is to get Jesse through this, but we cant do it alone. I am so moved by the friends that have shown up to support Jesse, and our family.
We know that this year has been rough in so many ways for folks, so please please don’t feel like you need to give in dollars. Send Jesse a well wish, a story of your own journey with cancer, drop off a card, or something to make him laugh. Any donations will go towards his medical bills and expenses, wage loss, and recovery.
We thank you so much for the support and well wishes. <3
