Help US Marine Vet Cancer Patient

Donation protected
I'm doing this fundraiser for my Aunty Mondi. She's not my blood related Aunt but in the Poly (polynesian) culture, you don't have to be blood to be family. I'm Tupu. I go to school and play football with her son Brandon, who's like a brother to me.  I'm doing this because she's always been there for many others when they needed it. If you're not able or don't want to do anything else after reading this but share this on your social media and get the word out about this Go Fund Me campaign, that would be awesome. Thanks.

She could really use your help in any way. It's been a really tough past year for her because of her illnesses from what happened to her while stationed at Camp LeJeune when she was in the Marines.

My Aunt is a veteran of two branches of the military: The NJ National Guard and the US Marine Corps. While stationed at Camp LeJeune in the mid-1980’s, she was unknowingly drinking, showering in, and using highly toxic and contaminated water in her daily routine and duties.

Many USMC vets and others have died prematurely from illnesses that were caused by the extremely high level of toxic chemicals in  the contaminated water. And so many more vets like my Aunty, have gotten very sick with more than one illness, even years later.

What happened at Camp LeJeune is now one of the worst cases of water contamination in US history.

For 30 years, between January 1, 1957 and December 31, 1987, the health of veterans stationed at Camp Lejeune was put at considerable risk from water contaminated by hazardous chemicals. Drinking water was infected by trichloroethylene, an industrial solvent; tetrachloroethylene, used primarily as a dry cleaning agent and metal component degreaser; benzene; and vinyl chloride. Long story short, subsequent govt & civilian studies found that the base water supply showed contamination levels that were up to 3400 times what is considered carcinogenic.

Just this past Dec 2015 through gov’t legislation, the VA expanded their medical benefits to include anyone who lived or worked at Camp LeJeune for at least 30 days during that 30 year time frame. The 30 days was determined by the VA as the minimum amount of time that a person who was exposed to the contaminated water could experience adverse health effects years later.

My Aunt was stationed and living at Camp LeJeune for 4 YEARS. That's way past the 30 days it was determined to have a negative health effect, even years later. Currently, there’s a list of 15 physical and mental health issues that are recognized by the VA in the Camp LeJeune water contamination case and sadly that list continues to expand. Secretary of Veteran's Affairs Robert A. McDonald, in making this ruling this past December said: “The water at Camp Lejeune was a hidden hazard, and it is only years later that we know just how dangerous it was,”

Up until 2013, my Aunty was a person that was proud to say that she never had to be on any prescription medicines in her entire life. She was always thankful to feel blessed with a pretty strong immune system and good health.

Just three years later and my Aunt is now on seven daily prescription medicines. She is currently battling stage 3 papillary thyroid cancer.
She also has Hashimoto's disease, an auto-immune condition that attacks her thyroid and other tissues in her body. The thyoid regulates so many other functions in the body and this disease is also affecting her joints and her vision.
She’s also has three neurobiological conditions that she's currently being treated for. All this stuff happened in the last three years, and most of it in the past year. Just because of the water she drank and used in Camp LeJeune so many years ago.

She was scheduled for thyroid cancer surgery in early March but she had to postpone it for financial reasons.
She really needs to have her surgery and be able to just stay home and recuperate for a couple of months while getting her follow up treatment.

I want to try to really help my Aunt. I want to try to raise the kind of funds that would allow her to not delay her cancer surgery and after treatment any more and just be able to focus on getting better. She’s just so determined to keep doing everything by herself.

She keeps a positive attitude and on FB that most people don’t even know she's really sick with all those other things and has cancer on top of it. I know in social media she really rarely mentions it. She says everyone has something to worry about or deal with and have stuff going on that's worse than what she's facing. That's just how she is.

Thank you for reading this. And thank you ahead of time for trying to help if you’re able to.

Please share this & pass it on if you can, to allow others the opportunity to help if they can. If you know of anyone that may be able and willing to help through this campaign, please share this link. Every little bit helps a lot. Thank you.
