Romeo is a disabled Marine Corps veteran who worked his way up through the ranks, from private to Captain, retiring after 25 years of service. On the evening December 29, 2018 he was assaulted by a stranger causing him to fall; he hit his head and lost consciousness for several minutes. By the following morning he had lost his ability to speak and walk due to the injury. He was transported by helicopter to the VCU Critical Care Unit where brain scans revealed severe bleeding to the left side of his brain. Doctors inserted a tube to relieve cranial pressure, induced a coma and took other vital measures to save his life. While the full extent of his neurological injuries is not yet known, and he has not yet regained speech nor use of his right side, Romeo is now stable, and when conscious, able to interact with doctors and family using gestures.
Bottom line: Romeo and his family face great uncertainty, and he will be unable to work for the foreseeable future. At best, they have an arduous and expensive road ahead, as they pursue both medical and possible legal courses of action. They greatly appreciate your prayers and any financial help you can provide.
