University of San Francisco Sport Management Master's Program: South Africa Study Abroad 2016
Every summer students in the University of San Francisco Sport Management Master's Program complete essay-based applications to study abroad under Professor Michael Goldman in Johannesburg, South Africa. This coming January, 16 students from both the San Francisco and Los Angeles campuses will stay for two weeks at the Gordon Institute of Business, meeting with African media conglomerate SuperSport, FNB World Cup Stadium, Blue Bulls Rugby, NBA Africa, and others to supplement classroom lectures and readings. We aim to immerse ourselves in the social and economic culture of business and sport in South Africa to better understand a globalizing industry and broaden our backgrounds.
What We Need
To proactively engage with South African sport communities, we are seeking to raise $2,750 to donate lasting sports supplies to disadvantaged South African youth. We have identified two local non-profits to work with and contribute to: the DreamFields Project and the Alexandra Baseball Club. Our student-led initiative follows in the footsteps of last year's study abroad students, who raised $2,675 to enrich sports opportunities for disadvantaged South African youth.
Your Impact
Working with the DreamFields Project, we will deliver four, $540 DreamBags of durable soccer balls, cleats, jerseys, shorts, and socks to disadvantaged children from four schools in Soweto, South Africa. Together the DreamBags will enable 60 more kids a year to play soccer, learn teamwork, and have fun. We will personally deliver the goods and lead activities to ensure the kids have fun (pictures and video pending), but the equipment will last long after we leave. The rest of our funds will supply 1-2 months of operations at the Alexandra Baseball Club .
The Ask
Please donate $25, though any amount is appreciated, and every amount counts. Together we the 16 students are seeking to raise $2,750 from 75-125 donors. Thank you very much for your consideration!
Special Thanks for Alumni
Thank you so much for supporting current students! Curious what others are up to? Click here to see the latest on your former classmates. Thanks again!
