USA Deaf Cycling @ 2017 Deaflympics

Please help the United States Deaf Cycling Association (USDCA) by sending 2 cyclists and their coach to Samsun, Turkey for the 2017 Deaflympics. The last Deaflympics took place in Sofia, Bulgaria where USA Deaf Cycling took home 1 Gold and 3 Bronze medals!

Following schedule is set for the cycling sports:
July 19 - 1000m Sprint
July 21 - 40km Time Trial
July 23 - Road Race
July 24 - Mountain Bike Race
July 25 - 50km Points Race

Please take the time to read the bio on each athlete below before donating. You are invited to either donate to your favorite rider or to USDCA as a whole team. If you want to donate to a specific person, please select that person in the Wish List (below or on the side). Otherwise, the donations will be distributed evenly among the team. If an individual meets their total, then the leftovers will be distributed evenly among the team as well.

- John Klish (Colorado)Brief Bio: Road Cat 2 & MTB Cat 1; 2013 Deaflympian Gold Medalist & 2 time Bronze Medalist; planning to participate in all 5 events again.
Cyclist Type: Road & Mountain.
Other Sports: Earned a spot on 2001 Deaflympics Soccer team, declined for academics.
Previous Deaflympics participant: Yes.


- Nixo Lanning (New Mexico)
Brief Bio: Road & MTB Cat 3/4, all around cyclist and all around athletic; this will be my first cycling experience in summer Deaflympics. I am doing Mountain Bike and two road bike events in Time Trail and Crit.

Previous Deaflympics: This will be my 9th international sports event. Won Gold medal in winter Deaflympics 2007, soccer World Cup in 2016, and Basketball World Cup in 2002. Won Silver medal in summer Deaflympics 2001 and 2009. Won bronze medal in winter deaflympics 2003.


- Paul Wood (Indiana) *COACH*
Brief Bio: 7 time United States Deaflympian cyclist; 10 total medals!
Current status: cycling coach for USDCA and full time Athletic Director at Indiana School for the Deaf.


Each athlete will need about $5,000 to cover the following fees: UCI license ($200), 5 pre-Deaflympics races ($100 each = $500 total), average airfare ($1,250), bike box check-in ($250 each way = $500), hotel/transportation/food/organization fee ($1,528), opening ceremony clothing ($150), nutrition for race ($25 / day x 7 race days = $175), 2 jersey tops ($130 each x 2 = $260), and GoFundMe services (7.9% + $0.30 per donation).

Our coach also needs help fundraising for his time and energy! He will need about $3,000 to cover the following fees: airfare ($1000), hotel/transportation/food/organization fee ($1,528), opening ceremony clothing ($150), and GoFundMe services (7.9% + $0.30 per donation).

Following are deadlines we have established to minimize each athlete's "pocket-digging" for the periodic event payments, such as airfare booking and upfront organization fees:
- April 20th: $1,500 each person
- May 20th: $3,000 each person
- June 20th: $5,000 each person (complete fundraising!
