Hey y’all,
For those of you who don’t know—I’m McKayla, a fine art photographer with an extended focus in sculpture, installation art, and cinematography.
This summer, I’ve been accepted into a Filmmaking Intensive at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, and I’m fundraising to pay for my tuition!
Being a part of this program gives me the chance to gain a comprehensive understanding of writing, directing, producing, cinematography, and editing. As I step into a space where I feel very confident in myself and my ability to lead the stories of my family, my community, and even the imaginative ones that help me dream big—I’m energized by my belief in doing the work, learning as much as I can from every angle in order to be a better storyteller, timekeeper, artist, and person.
This course, especially at the incomparable USC SCA, feels like the springboard I need to push me forward with all the technical skills and tools required to bring these stories to life.
Also, plain as day.. I miss school, y’all.
There’s nothing like doing the work alongside classmates and faculty who are brilliant and just as eager to be of service, to grow with you, geek out with you, and be moved by the life-changing art we’ll be creating together.
I really bet on myself. I applied for this course—and now… we’re here (':
You might be wondering why one class costs so much—so let's get into it. Here’s the full breakdown:
Tuition: $18,832
Application Fee: $65 (nonrefundable)
Program Fee: $300 (nonrefundable)
Health Center Fee: $175 (mandatory)
Commitment Deposit: $750 (nonrefundable, but applied to tuition)
Housing: $2,300 (1 month’s rent in LA)
Total: $21,672
My goal is to raise $24,000 to also cover any miscellaneous expenses like insurance, books, equipment rentals, or supplies.
If you believe in storytelling, art, and Black women shaping the future of film—any amount helps, truly. Send this to someone you know that believes in supporting emerging arts! Also, a couple words of encouragement goes a long way.. send some love my way if nothing else.
Thank you in advance for showing up for me. I’m ready to make this leap—and grateful for everyone helping me land <3
