Hello,
My name is Matthew Hunt, I am a professional dancer, and a lover of Jesus Christ. I want to create professional cinematic pieces that speak spiritual truths to today’s society through the art of dance. I believe God has placed a call on my heart to minister to the hearts of people who were broken like I was before I found God, and I think I am uniquely positioned to do it through a cinematic medium.
My First Project: House On A Hill
I recently completed my first piece "House on a Hill" (which you can find above) and it speaks to the inherent brokenness of the human spirit outside of Christ. Feel free to share it with others using this link from my YouTube Channel: https://youtu.be/HrNmB3NCysE
My Next Project: Lovesick
This GoFundMe effort will fund my second piece: "Lovesick". This song by the group Housefires speaks to our communal longing for intimacy and connection, with only God satisfying our true need. My plan is to include multiple dancers to better represent the themes of the piece. I hope to raise $1900 by June 1st.
I always aim to produce quality, professional pieces featuring professional dancers who live and breathe this unique art form. To keep costs low, I film my pieces in Dallas where the dancers and cinematographer live. I drive in the day before the shoot and rehearse with the artists. The following day, we shoot the project and I drive back home to San Antonio. I do all the editing of the projects myself to further decrease costs.
All of my completed projects will be available to you and the public for free through my YouTube channel. My hope is that many will share the links and spread the hope that these pieces bring.
Here is a breakdown of how I will use the money raised:
Compensating professionals for their time (dancers and cinematographers) $1100+
Renting a space to use for the shoot. $450
Renting a dance studio to rehearse in the day before the shoot. $50-$100
Traveling to and from Dallas (hotel, food, gas) $150 - $200
As of right now, I plan on fundraising on a project-by-project basis. All money raised beyond the fundraising goal for this project will go towards future projects.
The Bottom Line: I am humbled to have the opportunity to serve the Lord in this way. I take your decision whether or not to support me in this endeavor very seriously. My goal is never to glorify my work but rather point others to the Man who can heal the brokenness that people find in their lives. If you feel called to give, I promise that your donation will not go to waste.
A bit about me: I attended Oklahoma City University where I received my Bachelor of Performing Arts in Dance Performance, focusing primarily on classical styles of dance such as ballet, jazz, and tap. I worked for about 4 years sailing abroad on luxury cruise liners before moving to San Antonio with my wife to pursue choreography and teaching.
My story: My entire testimony about how God found me and turned me around would be quite a lengthy story, but I will attempt to provide an abridged version to explain how I went from a man entrenched in sin to someone who has found his purpose and calling through Jesus Christ.
Three years ago, I was (in theory) in one of the best places of my life. I had just completed my first cruise ship contract with my girlfriend who was also a performer after trying for years to get us to work together. I was home for the first time since high school for Christmas to meet my new nephew and my entire family to meet my girlfriend Lindsey. I had every reason to be happy, but I was deeply unfulfilled with my life and I didn't know why. I felt a gaping hole in my heart, and nothing I did could fill it. I was stuck in sin, coveting things I did not have, and trying to be something I was not. My dad told me I had a spiritual void in my soul and it turned out he was right. My family always went to church, but I never really got it or saw the point. It was their thing; I was just along for the ride. Well I felt so broken, I was willing to try anything, so I decided to give Jesus Christ a shot. Fast forward a year, and several crazy God encounters later, my life was completely changed. A year after I made the commitment to follow Christ, He felt it was time to enter into my life in full. I literally felt on fire for the Lord; I had never felt or expected such a distinct physical sensation. I felt clean. Born anew. Whole. The Lord picked me up, turned me around, and set me on the path I am on today. All I want is for others to experience this same freedom I was so graciously given.
Thank you for your consideration,
