Chennai Flood Relief #USA4Chennai

While the global leaders convened at Paris on 30th November to achieve a legally binding agreement on climate, the world witnessed its worst effects in the form of record breaking rains in coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, India. Per CNN the rainfall received in Chennai on Dec 1st alone is equivalent to last 1 year of rainfall received in UK.

Chennai, one of India's largest metropolitan cities, with a population of close to 7 million people is being battered by unprecedented torrential downpour over the past 2 weeks. The city has never seen rain and flooding like this in the past 100 years causing widespread loss of human lives and infrastructure. Cuddalore a smaller coastal district faced rains of similar magnitude and most of its areas are unapproachable even for rescue teams.

But we also witnessed an outpour of support from people, coming together to help each other. Doors were opened to welcome the stranded, movie halls and shopping malls became relief camps, ordinary people preformed extraordinary deeds. The social media was extensively used to connect the victims to the rescue teams.

Chennai is now limping back to her feet, but all the battering has taken its toll on her. Many of the neighborhood are completely submerged, food stocks and supplies are dwindling, and an epidemic outbreak is looming large. Chennai is in need of funds now more than ever. Fortunately, there are quite a few NGOs which are doing a great job in rehabilitating the victims and they need your immediate support.

Let’s join hands and help Chennai and Cuddalore get back to normalcy by donating generously.
