The athletes of the USA Group National Team of Rhythmic Gymnastics need your financial help to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics! For those who don’t know, rhythmic gymnastics is one of three Olympic gymnastics sports, and one of the only all-female Olympic sports. It is a unique and extremely difficult combination of dance, gymnastics, apparatus coordination, strength, elegance, and flexibility. We are in the Group division, where multiple gymnasts work together in a routine at the same time requiring extreme focus, coordination, and synchronicity. Our team has been training and competing together around the world at various Grand Prix, World Cups, and World Championships representing the USA for two years. The team consists of eight girls: Daria Baltovick, Isabelle Connor, Connie Du, Yelyzaveta Merenzon, Matylda Marszalek, Elizaveta Pletneva, Nicole Sladkov, and Kristina Sobolevskaya, along with our incredible coach Margarita Mamzina.
These past two years our team has been extremely successful: we have won multiple gold and silver medals at the 2017 and 2018 Pan American Championships, qualified to various finals at World Cups and Grand Prix, and produced highest-in-US-history rankings and scores at World cups, Grand Prix, and World Championships. We are now in the Olympic qualifying year, and hope to make it to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
In order to compete at this elite level, our entire team has made life-altering sacrifices. Several of our girls have moved across the country in order to train together. Some only could come with one parent, forcing families to split up state to state and pay for multiple residencies. We have had to adapt our schooling, sometimes missing weeks of classes at a time, be homeschooled, or put off college. These and many more sacrifices had to be made in order to have a team made up of the best athletes for the Olympics.
WHY WE NEED YOR HELP
Given USAG’s current situation, they are unable to fully fund our team. Though we are of course exceedingly grateful for the help and opportunities they provide us this is the 2020 Olympic qualification year! We need to attend more international competitions and more training camps in better facilities in order to compete with all the other countries who have government funding, salaries, and state-of-the-art facilities. There is no additional financial help available from USAG or any sponsors to cover the expenses of training six days a week, 52 weeks a year including tuition, matching training apparel, apparatus, and leotards. This coming year will be especially difficult as the athlete’s families must either partially or fully self-fund all competitions and training trips (14+) leading up to and between the Pan American Games and World Championships. Help us get there! Many of us have trained for years to get this opportunity and we’re not giving up now!
