Help Sarah fight cancer!

Hi everyone! My name is Sarah and I am 23 years old.

Here’s a little timeline to show how a friendly visit to Washington state turned into finding out I have cancer.

On the 9th of October, a CT scan at the emergency room showed I had a mass growing in my brain. I was rushed to the Evergreen Health Hospital in Kirkland in an ambulance where I was put into the ICU and diagnosed with a plum sized Medulloblastoma; a tumour in the primary central nervous system of your brain. On the same night, I received a procedure to remove excess fluids in my brain where they had physically drilled a hole into my skull to insert a tube to drain the fluid that would normally naturally flow, but due to my tumour being so large, there was a build-up in my head causing severe migraines and vision changes. I was awake and conscious for this entire procedure so it wasn’t the most pleasant experience. I then lived with this tube in my head for the next 2 weeks where I had to lay in an angle all day.

On the 14th of October, I went into surgery to remove the tumour. After 10 hours in the operation room, my surgeon had successfully managed to remove 100% of the tumour in my brain. Most of the recovery from the surgery was having to learn how to walk, see and use my dominant hand again.

What was meant to be a benign tumour, a lumbar puncture showed I had tested positive for cancer in my cerebral spinal fluid. This only occurs in 4 other people in the country a year. An MRI scan also showed that I had a tumour growing on my spine. I am currently going through both radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatments every weekday for the next 6-8 months here in Seattle.

Most of my procedures and treatments will have to be paid out of pocket, and much of what I will endure for treatment will not be covered by insurance. As of now, it stands in excess of $160,000 for current treatments alone. I am asking for donations to help lessen the massive financial blow of this incredibly devastating news. These funds will be used to pay for my medical bills resulting from my cancer treatment and surgery. Anything counts and is deeply appreciated.
