Sabrina's Cancer Journey
Donation protected
On April 22nd 2015, Sabrina Graetz got the phone call that no 21 year old girl could ever imagine receiving...”you have cancer”. With everything that her family has gone through (a life changing car accident in 2005 that left her mother with a severe traumatic brain injury, and both her and her older sister with serious injuries), nobody could have ever imagined getting any worse news than what they have already conquered as a family. But in the coming weeks, they learned that not only did she in fact have cancer, but a cancer so rare that it isn’t even recognized on Mayo Clinic’s website nor the American Cancer Society’s.
Clear Cell Hidradenocarcinoma.
The biggest battle with this cancer of the sweat glands is that because it is so rare, there is no great path carved out on how to treat this. It’s all a bit of a guessing game, and as you can imagine, that has not been easy on Sabrina or her friends and family.
Because Clear Cell Hidradenocarcinoma is aggressive and highly metastatic,
Sabrina has undergone two surgeries, a multitude of tests and scans, and has more on the future schedule. She will first have an additional surgery to remove the remaining lymph nodes in that area, and then most likely undergo radiation, Monday through Friday for six straight weeks at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. This will mean that she will not be able to work, needing to live away from her “normal life” for the entire summer, and as you can imagine for a college student, that means a huge loss in her yearly income, as she only works very part time during the school year.
With just one semester left of school, and the decision of what she ultimately wants to do with her life ahead of her, the medical bills are not ceasing from arriving in the mail.
Sabrina has inspired more people in her 21 years of life than most could reach in a lifetime. Her drive, determination, and her strong faith in God, will see her through this trial in her life. She has unwavering belief that our God will heal her and comfort her all the days of her life.
Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated! Also, please LIKE and SHARE this page on Facebook. Whether or not you can help financially, please PRAY for Sabrina’s full recovery and know that Sabrina and her family are forever thankful for all the love, prayer, and support. All donations will go towards Sabrina’s medical bills and helping with the financial burden of the loss of wages. Any additional money that they do not feel is necessary to use will be donated to Mayo Clinic in an effort to gain more insight on this rare cancer and help find a cure.
