Help us say Goodbye to Mason and welcome a new doggy friend.

November 2015: Almost 10 years ago, Brianne and Tim decided that it was time to find a furry friend who would make us go outside and keep us company. We met Mason, a very friendly and hyper puggle at the KW Humane Society and took him home immediately, before even actually purchasing any of the supplies we needed!
2015-2021: Over the years, Mason has been our best buddy - bringing us his ball when we are studying too much and need to take a break to play and, when Brianne had undiagnosed sleep apnea, constantly sleeping next to her to make sure she didn't stop breathing.
2021-2023: When Addie was born, Mason was relatively uninterested and then mildly annoyed - but she just kept loving him until he finally agreed to love her back.
2023-2025: Unfortunately, for over a year now Mason has struggled with ongoing GI issues causing frequent bouts of vomiting or incontinence inside and resulting in needing a cocktail of regular medications, along with expensive prescription food. A few months ago, we also found a lump that turned out to be a cancer tumor. He is tired and we have had to restrict a lot of the things he loves to keep him from being sick all the time, so we finally decided that April 16th is the right day to say goodbye.
Next Steps: We have always known that a day would come when Mason would leave us and we have always planned that we would want to get another dog soon afterwards - both for us and for Addie, who loves dogs more than any other kid we know. Because Addie is so little, we have decided that choosing a dog from a breeder is the right option to ensure that we have a sense of the temperament and health history, although we expect to adopt rescues again in the future, when Addie is older. Unfortunately, every part of this painful process - both saying goodbye to Mason and finding a new friend to live with us - is extremely expensive and we are pretty financially restricted as grad students.
Should you wish to donate to help us, we will use the funds towards the following:
- euthanasia, including cremation ($600)
- memorial painting of Mason, commissioned from a local artist ($300)
- puppy adoption ($1500-4000)
- puppy training/socialization classes ($800)
- spay/neuter surgery ($500)
- pet insurance ($50+/month)
- equipment/supplies for new puppy (e.g., new crate mat, collars/harnesses/leashes, pee pads, toys, dog beds, new food dishes, etc).
