Please help us raise funds for my sisters treatment.

Hi my name is Gavin and I am trying to raise some funds for my sister. Let me start by introducingyou to my younger sister Denise, she is a daughter, sister, wife and mother and we all love her immensely.

In January 2019 she welcomed to the world her son, Alex. Alex has grown up a lot in that time and is already such a lovely young man. I’m not sure how much he realises of what is going on around him.

In 2020 my sister Denise, was diagnosed with metastic stage 4 breast cancer. She immediately started treatment and decided to give it all the fight she had. She wants to give Alex the best mummy she can for as long as she can.

Over the last four years the intensity and frequency of the treatements has increased. However, the cancer has sadly spread to the liver. My initial thoughts were could I be a liver doner to her. Her medical team have said this is sadly not an option for her.

Denise is now at a point where she has lost the use of her arms and legs due to the effects the radiation and chemo have had on her central nervous system. She is no longer able to work which has hit her hard as she always has! She’s trying her best to keep a smile on for Alex so he can’t see how hard it is for her whilst explaining as best she can to a 5 year old why she is unable to move.

My sister lives in South Africa and in South Africa, like in America, it is absolutely essential you have a medical aid (private health insurance) otherwise you wouldn’t be able to afford the medical bills. However, there are times where the medical aid funds run out and you either have to pay in to top up the shortfall or you have to pay for all medical treatments yourself until the year is up and your fund starts again. Denise is now at that point. Her medical aid reached its cut out point in March. She now needs to find all the funds needed to ensure she can continue her treatments without any gaps. As a family we are trying our best to ensure this doesn’t happen. The treatments cost R14000 (roughly £600) every three weeks. Her medical aid will kick back in at in July. From now till July we need to find R77000 (roughly £3500) just for the chemo treatments. Denise also needs a nurse with her almost 24 hours a day which we haven’t been able to afford as this costs in the range of R16000 a week (roughly £600 per week).

We need to raise funds to for this crucial treatment to give her the best chance of beating this bloody awful disease.

Before her diagnosis Denise was full of life and adventure, she sparkled, she loved life and loved laughing, becoming a mummy was the best experience for her and one she Cherishes every minute, watching her go through what she does and trying to keep smiling speaks to who she is, she’s still fighting as much as she can, but you can see the struggle.

Your help sharing this link and getting her story out would mean the world to us. It will help her to keep fighting the way she has.

It feels strange asking for other peoples help and generosity. Even writing this, is causing a lump in my throat and making it feel even more real than it currently does, im not even sure how that is even possible, but we will do anything to raise the funds to keep her treatment going.

Thank you for reading and supporting I’m eternally grateful for your help
