Here is an update on Belzara – Thursday 5/4
Thank you with all my heart!
YOU ALL made a big difference in the positive outcome for Belz.
To EVERYONE and your generosity - who kept Belzara in their thoughts, for those who were able to contribute financially – you ALL are so very appreciated! We acquired enough funding to put toward paying down Dr. Barrera’s bill. These contributions allow me to not stress about financing Belzara’s wellness journey, and I can provide her the calm, loving and healing energy she needs from me.
Every moment of every day Belzara is traversing her way to wellness, she is one determined pup to get back to her life as she loves it.
As Belz continues to heal, Dr. Barrera has been able to get a clearer picture of what her prognosis is. Diagnoses given at the beginning of her wellness journey have been reevaluated and it paints a much brighter picture for her future and quality of life.
Belz is healing well and as expected with no complications from the actual hysterectomy.
She is gaining strength and returning quickly to her sassy self as the infection from the Pyometra is clearing from her system with antibiotic treatment and a whole lot of love.
She is regaining strength in her hind. Originally, it was thought diabetes caused neuropathy, the weakness in her hind leaving her unable to walk, it has since been discussed that since her gait improved so quickly that it is not in conjunction with diabetes. Perhaps she was just in pain from the surgery, and it hurt to walk. I believe Belzara is well on her way back to regaining full use of her hind.
After surgery, Belz was diagnosed with diabetes. It is now being discussed that hyperglycemia could be caused by a large amount of progesterone in her system from the Pyometra. The hysterectomy put a stop to the outpouring of progesterone, and I am optimistic that once her body heals and her hormones regulate, she will not have hyperglycemic issues, hence no diabetes.
Love from Candace, Emilee, Sophia and Belzara
Belzara's Status UPDATE: 4/28/2023
Belz is healing as expected from the life-saving total hysterectomy surgical procedure (4/26). Every moment she is moving toward wellness. Belz developed diabetes and is now on insulin, her body is taking well to the insulin; the diabetes caused neuropathy in her hind and she is not able to walk as before. Each day she is making micro-improvements in her ability to walk.
This girl has a strong will, and she is giving it her ALL toward healing. I hope to bring Belz home soon.
The GFM has raised $1791 so far, and it continues to grow. This full amount (minus GFM fees) is headed directly to pay down what is owed for professional services by Dr. Barrera and his staff at Affordable Animal Hospital -Silver Lake (2417 Riverside Dr. Los Angeles, CA 90039 / (323) [phone redacted]), just as soon as the transfer is complete in 5 business days (5/5).
Dr. Barrera is the surgeon that saved Belzara’s life. Dr. Barrera is very kind and an expert in his field, along with his dedicated and loving staff, who are giving Belz the concentrated aftercare she needs, as well as their entire hearts and time, to bring Belz to wellness.
From Dr. Barrera, the surgeon who saved Belzara’s life, to the medical vet tech who has tirelessly stayed with Belzara overnight at the hospital to give her round-the-clock love and care, to the compassionate vet techs who feed her and encourage her to walk and give her the lovin' she needs, and the kind office staff working with me regarding billing, I thank them with all my heart.
Dr. Barrera said to me, “Sometimes we only get paid enough to keep the lights on, but we make it work because we do it for the animals and their loved ones.”
I will keep the GFM fundraiser open for a bit to cover some of Belzara’s aftercare costs: follow-up doctor visits to monitor her diabetes and get her regulated on her insulin, for initial physical therapy appointments needed to get her to walking again; and also to continue to raise funds to pay down the vet expenses and to help Dr. Barrera “keep the lights on”.
ORIGINAL POST: 4/26/2023
Many of you are acquainted with Belzara and have experienced her welcoming demeanor and sweet loving ways, she truly is a cherished family member, as your fur babes are to you.
Belzara needs some extra love right now as she was diagnosed with Closed Pyometra and could have lost her precious life if it wasn’t for the doctors, dedicated staff and medical professionals at Petsadena Animal Hospital and the surgeon, medical professionals and caregivers at Silverlake Animal Hospital.
Belzara had an emergency life-saving complete Hysterectomy surgery last night (Wed 4/26); she is still in recovery at Silverlake and may come home soon; then another 6 weeks of dedicated care and concentrated recovery.
As most fur babe parents are aware, the vet bills are astronomical, and the cost continues to grow. It is heart-wrenching to see our furry loved ones in pain and in need of professional care, adding in the anxiety and frustrations from lack of funding availability and the thought of not being able to provide access to the quality of care they need and deserve is too much to bear.
I look forward to the day that Belzara and I are out walking the neighborhood again and can say "Hi" to all the four-legged and two-legged friends we have made and continue to make, and give a great big "thank you" in person to those that wished her well.
Most importantly, please keep Belzara in your thoughts and prayers.
Your contribution to Belzara’s GoFundMe is greatly appreciated!
Thank you all.
