Ursula Ryan (August 16, 1938 - January 19, 2019)
Ursula Ryan was the heart and soul of Weist-Barron-Ryan (WBR) Acting Workshop and Casting Agency. At the end of her life she said, "I want to do one last thing to be able to help the South Jersey arts community."
She wasn't just
a casting agent or a teacher. She was family to everyone who knew her. After over 30 years in the Atlantic City area, you would be hard-pressed to find anyone who didn't know and respect her.
She could spot talent in an instant and was responsible for helping to launch the careers of many of her students, casting them in film, TV and national commercials.
Ursula loved and supported every facet of the arts and was instrumental, with her daughter Stefanie, and grandson, Quinn, in bringing the 2018 film tax credits to New Jersey.
She was an active member of the Screen Actors Guild and was an integral part of the Atlantic City Cinefest, the Arts Garage, Dante Hall and the AC Film Commission.
In 2003 Ursula told a Press of Atlantic City reporter, "The arts are a very important part of my life. I wish there were more hours in the day so I could do more to promote the arts."
Through the Ursula Ryan Memorial Arts Fund
and with the help of her many friends throughout the world, Ursula will get her wish.
The Ursula Ryan Memorial Arts Fund will offer scholarships to kids and adults who cannot afford acting classes. Funds will also be used to support other arts projects in the Atlantic County area.
