Ursa's Canine Autoimmune treatment
Donation protected
Ursa ( our Great Dane) was rescued from the flea market in east TN back 2012 and given a home where she is loved and cared for. She has not had the easiest of life, 2 years ago Ursa suffered from seizures and was hospitalized for almost a week with do true diagnosis as to what happened.
Three days ago Ursa became lethargic and would not eat, we noticed her stool turned bright orange and we rushed her to emergency room where her red blood count was 22.
The doctors quickly explained that Ursa was Anemic and that her white blood cells were killing and tearing her red blood cells apart. She has undergone 2 blood transfusions thus far and may require a few more to get her bone marrow to start producing new red blood cells again.
each transfusion is $600, and each day in the hospital is over $400. We are trying our best to give her the best shot at recovery, it is a long road ahead and we hope we can afford more transfusions to get her well again. The doctors say she could be hospitalized for 5 + days before she can return home and that 3-4 more transfusions may be needed on top of what has already happened. Being a great dane she requires transfusions more regularly as the typical size of dog blood bags don’t affect her like a smaller dog.
Funds raised here will give Ursa a fighting chance to recover from Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia. The doctors said that she could turn a corner after any transfusion and begin the road to recovery.
Ursa is a important member of our family and is like a child to us, we are devastated to think that we will not have enough money to afford the next transfusion that could be the one that she recovers from .
We received a call from the doctor at 5pm on 2/19/18 saying that her levels fell to 12 and another transfusion was started immediately. Any funds raised here will allow that one more chance to give her the life she deserves and bring her home to us.
