Hello, I’m Karen Metzler. If you know me, you know I’m not a person of many words, so it truly means a lot that you’re taking a moment to read my story.

I’m asking for your help during one of the most difficult times in our lives. The love of my life, Chris, has been hospitalized for several days and is now facing the need for a liver transplant. He will be out of work for quite some time, and we are suddenly facing the loss of a major source of income.

I am doing everything I can to support our family, but I will soon need to be home to care for him when he is discharged. This means even more financial strain as I try to provide for our children on my own.

Our son is at a point in his life where he should be focused on his future and college. Instead, he’s worried about his dad’s health and whether our family can make it through this. Hearing him say he feels like he has to choose between going to college or helping his dad is something no parent should ever face. I want him to have his future, and I want to be able to support him in reaching it.

At the same time, I am caring for our daughter, who is still in middle school and trying to understand everything that’s happening.

This has been an incredibly emotional time filled with constant tests, scans, and uncertainty. We miss Chris every day—his humor, his sarcasm, his presence. He is our rock, and our family is holding on tightly to love, hope, and faith as we get through this.

Any donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward supporting our family—covering medical expenses, daily living costs, and helping us stay stable during this challenging time.
