Hi!! I’m Danna Chalela, and I’m an upcoming junior with a passion for visual storytelling. I'm directing a student-run production of URINETOWN, a sidesplitting sendup of greed, love, revolution (and musicals!), in a time when water is worth its weight in gold.
ABOUT THE SHOW:
To put it bluntly, Urinetown is a masterclass in musical satire. It blends absurd humor with clever social commentary, using comedy both to entertain and to reflect the realities of our own world. The show moves through comedy, drama, and tragedy while delivering the expectations of the grand musical spectacle that we all yearn for: massive group numbers, a charming tenor lead and his giddy love interest, and a big corporate evil. These archetypes we all know so well are, ultimately, dismantled to reveal a deeper commentary at the center of the script, forcing us to question whether morality can survive in a world shaped by power, scarcity, and radical extremes.
Through this production, I hope to underscore the dangers of unchecked authority, the failures of radical responses to oppression, and the human consequences of treating survival as a commodity.
WHERE IS YOUR MONEY GOING?:
100% of proceeds will go towards the rights/materials for this production, costuming our actors, designing/building our set, and other technical elements that will bring this play to life.
Help us tell this story!
