Uriel Antonio Matamoros Sr. "Popeye"
59 formerly of Elizabeth, NJ passed away due to a straddle accident at PNCT on July 13th 2022.

MAY OUR BROTHER REST IN HEAVEN PRAYERS THAT HIS FAMILY OVERCOME THIS DIFFICULT TIME IN THEIR LIVES .

Uriel was born on May,17 1963 to the late Carlos Matamoros & Carmen Matamoros in Granada, Nicaragua.

As a young man, he moved to United States and attended and graduated from St. Patrick's High School. In 1985 he joined and entered military service in the United States Marine Corps where he served Honorably as a Rifleman with the 3d Battalion, 4th Maine, and 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, NC. After his honorable discharge from the Marines he returned home to NJ.

Besides his love for his Country, Popeye was a dedicated & devout husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. A God-fearing man who was so proud of his family. He lived his life for his family and there was nothing he wouldn't do for them.  Popeye had such a unique personality and the ability to befriend any soul he encountered throughout his walk of life. He was well known in the city he loved and loved by many. He never met a stranger, every person in the world to him seemed to be just a new friend. He had a keen ability to bring out the best in others and always saw the good in them. Without hesitation he was always willing to give the shirt off his back to those who needed.

An 8 year veteran of the Port Authority ILA Local 1233 member, Popeye loved his job. His number one priority was making sure his family was happy; he worked so hard to give them the best of the best. He never took for granted the opportunity to spend time with family and friends. Popeye was a diehard Yankee Fan and there was never a game he missed or opportunities to hype up and brag about his beloved team. It was a continued and long-standing rivalry within the family who were Red Sox fans, he cherished every moment of it.

In June 2004 he met the love of his life Rose Marie Ortiz and in 2020 they were married making their new home in the suburbs of Roselle. Deeply in love and inseparable they would actively seek out adventures for their family and worked hard looking forward to a long, stable, safe and happy life together.

Uriel "Popeye" is survived by his wife, Rose Marie, 6 children, Nicole, Jonathan, Idaliz, Christian, Crystal and Uriel Jr., 6 grandchildren Pablo, Meleena, Maxon, Marius, Julian & Jayden. His mother, Carmen Matamoros, brothers Juan Carlos, Edwin, Carlos, Julio and Jose as well as extended family, friends and his ILA Brothers/Sisters he touched during his life and time here with us.

I'm doing this gofund to help Uriel Matamoros wife ROSE MARIE ORTIZ and family with funeral and other expenses in this difficult time of their lives.
