Hello Friends and Family!
First and foremost, I hope this finds you all healthy and safe wherever you may be spending the summer.
I am reaching out because my long-time friend, Sophia, earns her livelihood cleaning apartments and houses in Brooklyn. She is an upbeat, kind and hard-working woman, with a radiant smile. When NYC shut down in March, none of her clientele continued to pay her. In light of the Black Lives Matter movement, I had high hopes that her clients would take action close to home- literally. They did not.
Sophia's husband is disabled and her daughter is attending college. Each month, Sophia and her daughter have somehow scraped together half of their rent while paying for food, medicine, and other necessities without an income. Her landlord refused rent forgiveness or a rent reduction, and now Sophia owes $3000 in back rent as well as $2000 for August, with September just around the corner.
So here's where we come in! With your help, I want to raise $6,00.00 by the end September 10 to help support her and her family.
Please consider donating whatever you can to this wonderful woman so that she is able to pay rent, care properly for her husband, and continue to send her daughter to college.
Together, we can make a huge difference for one fabulous fellow New Yorker!
Much love and so many thanks,
Sarah Barlow
