Urgent Their Lives Depend on Us But We’re at Breaking Point
Donation protected
I do not even know how to begin this post . I'm full of worry and desperate right now, we are in the middle of helping lots of emergencies who need life saving treatment . However the cost of doing this has pushed us to the edge. I don't know if I have ever been as worried about our future or not being able to help cats any more.
We are only halfway through the month, and our vet bills are already overwhelming. I feel sick with worry. We cannot keep up. A part of me wants to close our doors because we simply cannot afford the care needed anymore…
But how can we? Just yesterday, six urgent new cases came in. Cats in pain. Cats at risk of dying without immediate help. And even more waiting behind them who still need us less urgent but they still deserve care.
How can we say no? How can we turn our backs when we know they will suffer if we don’t step in and even worse many die without vet care. But at the same time… I have no idea how can we possibly raise the amount we need to keep going?
Our current vet bills for the past 19 days are £13,864 and rising as we have cats in the vets now and due in the rest of the month .
In just the past nineteen days, this is what we have faced:
Cookie needed an emergency caesarean after she passed two stillborn kittens. She hadn’t eaten for days and was still pushing. She went into surgery yesterday and there were still three kittens inside her. Only one survived which is heartbreaking. Her bill came to £1180
Happy, a tiny kitten, was so weak and lifeless. He was not eating, not playing, not moving. He had to spend four days at the vets to save his life his vet bill came to £1107
Coal, a young cat, had a severe deformity in his chest called pectus excavatum. Without surgery, it would have crushed his heart and lungs. He had a life saving chest plate put in this week his vet bill came to £571
Fred, a old stray, needed bloods, dental work and pain relief just to give him some comfort we couldn't leave him to suffer in pain his vet bill came to £1393
Mrs Pickles, a well loved farm cat, stopped eating and moving for two days. She looked so flat and unwell. She needed urgent care her bill came £1092 some of the lovely people at the farm have kindly contributed 200 towards her bill.
Salem, a very poorly stray, broke our hearts. We did lots of test to find out what was wrong but it was too late. He was suffering too much. We had no choice but to let him go peacefully £1139
Millie needed a tumour removed from her bottom her bill came to £1101
Otis, a farm cat, had a painful abscess that needed draining under sedation and treatment.
As I write this, another emergency case Ruby is heading to the vet. She had one stillborn kitten days ago and has had no more since. She may now need emergency surgery too.
We also have a stray currently at the vet, and his condition is heartbreaking. He is skin and bone, dehydrated, filthy, matted and unneutered. He is now on fluids. Once stable, he will be dematted, neutered, given blood tests, and likely a dental due to how badly he matted and how heis eating. He looks like he has been suffering for a long time. We are still trying to think of a name for him.
We have committed to Coal’s ongoing care, he needs weekly chest plate adjustments.
We also have foster cats with ongoing needs. Cats on thyroid medication, pain relief for arthritis, and we have promised to neuter cats who have already had kittens so this cycle of suffering ends.
This is just a glimpse. There are many more we have helped this month, but we simply do not have time to post every case. We are working flat out and still feel like we are falling behind.
I hate asking. I truly do. But the thought of saying no to a cat who is suffering is unbearable. I do not want to know a cat is in pain and not be able to help.
Please, if you can donate anything at all, it will make a difference. If you cannot donate but have time, could you help us fundraise? We are drowning in vet bills and just have no time to fundraise with helping all these cats.
We also run a weekly lottery if you would like to join in. Every bit of support helps.
We are exhausted, overwhelmed and desperate it's just so heartbreaking seeing an knowing all this suffering daily . It's made a little easier knowing we can at least help. If that's changes and we can't help any more we cant bear to think of how many cats will suffer.
If you can spare £1 , we would really appreciate it. Any amount of help can make a big difference.
We understand that times are tough for many that not everyone can donate ,we deeply appreciate any support you can provide. Sharing can really help make a difference too .
If you want to donate, you can do so via our vets or to our bank
