More information about Delaware Ecumenical Council on Children and Families: The Delaware Ecumenical Council on Children and Families is a faith-based health advocacy, education, and services organization. We engage, support and assist congregations, groups and individuals, in meaningful programs to improve the health, safety, and wellness of Delaware children, elderly and families statewide. The organization pursues this mission through community education and leadership development; program services to individuals, families and communities; and community organizations. These activities are intended to reduce the incidence and the impact of dysfunction, disease and disability as they affect children, the elderly, and families.

Through Faith in Action, our signature program, teams of interfaith volunteer caregivers assist the elderly, disabled, chronically ill, or visually impaired, in maintaining independent lifestyles as long as possible. We do this through transportation to medical appointments, pharmacy, physical therapy, etc., shopping for groceries or running other essential errands, assistance with paperwork and reading, companionship through friendly visits, telephone reassurance with weekly phone calls, and respite time-off for caregivers caring for a chronically ill family member.

Urgent Needs: 1) The computers in our administrative office have long exceeded their lifespans and no longer have the capacity to support large and more complex software, websites, and databases we must use to coordinate efforts with our community partners and potential funders. Funding we receive is often "restricted" and unable to be used for administrative and staff expenses. We must replace three desktop units, and purchase two laptops for our leaders working in other parts of the State. 2) Our office copier is on its last leg as well. We are seeking a new(er) one that has high quality imaging capabilities. This would allow us to produce more of our educational and printed materials in house, thus saving money. 3) More and more of our clients have to be transported to providers at medical centers, specialty care, etc. in other parts of Delaware. These trips can be up to 3 hours each way. Our volunteers are doing a tremendous job. The increased volume of service and mileage are impacting our budget and ability to reimburse the volunteers more appropriately. Any additional funds raised here will help us offset these additional crucial expenses. Thank you!
