Urgent Surgery Needed: Homer Curtis's Story

Hello everyone,

My name is Homer Curtis Jr., and I live in Nassau, Bahamas. Thank you for taking a moment to read my story.

In December 2023, just after celebrating my 50th birthday, I suddenly collapsed while getting up from my recliner. I couldn’t move my arms or legs. It was a terrifying and life-changing moment. After hospital visits and an MRI, I was diagnosed with Cervical Myelopathy, a serious condition caused by pressure on my spinal cord.

The MRI revealed compression at three levels of my spine: C2–C4, C5–C6, and C6–C7. My doctor explained that without surgery, my condition is unlikely to improve. The recommended procedure is called Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion, a surgery that aims to relieve the pressure on my spinal cord and give me a chance to walk again.

Thanks to the love and support of family and friends, I’ve made progress through consistent in-home physiotherapy. I’ve regained some use of my arms and legs, and just recently, we visited the doctor again. They were encouraged by how much I’ve improved, but emphasized that surgery is still necessary if I want to walk again.

Before all of this, I worked for many years as an engineer. I’m a husband and a proud father of twin boys, both currently in college. After losing my job and medical insurance, my wife became the sole provider. We’ve done all we can, but we’ve now reached a point where we need help.

We’ve created this GoFundMe to raise funds for the surgery and rehabilitation I still need. I believe in miracles, and I believe with your help, I can walk again.
