Urgent Surgery Needed for Survivor Kitten Fae!
Tax deductible
Thank you for stopping by our Go Fund Me for adorable, sassy, little Fae! We urgently need to raise funds for her to undergo surgery at University of Illinois School of Veterinary Medicine in just a few short weeks. Fae needs to have a CT scan, assessment of any possible brain abscess, possible removal of bone material from a skull fracture, and skin graft. She has a lot going on, but we have a plan and we have a team on board to provide Fae the greatest opportunity for a long healthy life. We just need funding. This surgery is medically necessary and not cosmetic. We think Fae would look perfect no matter what. Please, if you cannot contribute, share as we are short on time. Share, share, share.
A bit of background on Fae, despite our small rescue being completely full and technically on intake hold, we stretched to the limit to take on a tiny four week old kitten found all alone. We had no idea the condition Fae was really in until she was delivered to us by a Good Samaritan. Rescue volunteers ponied up personal credit cards to get Fae into the ER Vet that night for supportive care. Sometimes we go into a case like this with the sole goal of easing pain and suffering. Fae was just four-five weeks old and weighing only a half pound at intake, much smaller than a kitten of her age should be. She had suffered a massive injury to her head - vets think likely due to an animal bite - resulting in a fractured skull, a dislocated jaw, and a festering abscess that caused her eyes to be completely shut from the massive infection inside her head. But Fae is a fighter and with supportive care the infection began to slowly push out and miraculously she survived. The infection unfortunately resulted in massive and traumatic tissue loss to Fae’s face and neck. Her ear was nearly severed and most of the ear lost. On some areas of her face and forehead the tissue loss was down to the skull. Week after week though we have seen how amazingly resilient Fae is - her appetite and sassy attitude continues to grow and her skin has slowly stretched and stitched together in many places. Our rescue and her primary vet have been amazed at what her tiny little body has been able to overcome. We have had several setbacks during the last two months including high fevers and seizures from the infection. She has had persistent weeping and infection around an area of what we think may be dead bone. Her delicate eye tissue, already inflamed from not having an eyelid, was injured during a seizure. We need to get her into surgery to ensure there is no brain abscess, and, if there is, address it as quickly as possible. If the last remaining patch of exposed bone is indeed dead it must be removed. She will also require a skin graft to protect her delicate tissue. We need to help Fae over this next hurdle. In every way, Fae is a playful, funny kitten with loads of personality. Her spark is so bright she is inspiring us all to never give up. We have not received a written estimate for Fae's surgical care just yet, but a quick verbal estimate of $6500 was provided. We simply can not wait for the formal written estimate, every day lost waiting may prevent us from being able to provide Fae this life saving surgery. If our fundraiser exceeds Fae's financial needs those funds will support the medical treatment of other animals in our rescue and allow us to continue to take in animals like Fae - those who would otherwise be forgotten. We encourage you to follow Forget Me Not Animal Rescue of Will County on our social media channels to learn more about our rescue. Please help Fae!
