Hello, we're Kristin and Steve, and we are raising money for an urgent surgery for our dear friend, Paco.
Paco owns Cara Feliz bookstore and cafe, located in Tulum, Mexico. As a local business owner, he is a staple in the community, providing a safe space for locals and tourists alike to unwind, have a coffee, meet with friends, read, sing, play games, be creative, and express themselves.
In January 2024, Paco was in a serious motorbike accident. He sustained severe injuries to his right leg and foot. He spent several days in the hospital and received a lower leg cast, with the intention of holding him over until he could receive surgery. Through the public health care system, Paco's leg surgery was originally set for June 2024. Paco spent six months in this cast, and then the week before his surgery, his appointment was postponed to January 2025.
Unbelievably, the day before this new appointment, his surgery was postponed again. In the two years since the injury, this surgery has been cancelled and rescheduled four times. Sadly, because of the extended time his leg has been in a cast and boot, the bone has healed itself improperly, and will have to be medically broken to be reset. The sooner Paco receives this surgery, the better his chances for full recovery, for regained mobility and strength, and for overall well-being. He deserves it!
Private surgery is an option, though a large cost for a small business owner. It is our goal to help Paco receive the urgent medical care he deserves so badly by raising the $10,000 usd needed to fund his leg surgery. Any donation of any size is greatly appreciated.
