Urgent Surgery Needed for Jax's Recovery

Aloha, I’m Cierra, AKA Auntie Cierra, owner of Nummy Nums Organic Pet Treats Kapolei LLC and dog-mom of Jax and Kylo.

In 2023, our boy Jax randomly suffered a full cruciate ligament tear to his right hind leg, causing him to suffer daily pain and limping. At the time, we were able to afford the TPLO surgery to repair it, which cost a little over $7,000 USD. After the surgery and his healing/recovery, he’d been doing really well, being active and happy again. However, we were cautious as we were advised by the vet there was a 50-60% chance of him now tearing the other hind leg also.

As of August 2024, this is now a reality we have to face. He’s been limping daily again as the other hind leg has indeed been torn and he again requires the same TPLO surgery to repair it. Unfortunately, since we did not have pet insurance at the time of the first tear, the insurance will not cover the other leg as they consider it a pre-existing condition. With this being the case, along with living in the most expensive state and being just working class, my husband and I are struggling to come up with the $7,000 again for this second surgery. The longer the surgery is prolonged, the higher risk Jax is at every day of developing bone spurs causing him further injury and intensified pain.
