Emergency Surgery for Petal

- I am a friend of Craig Chester and a member of the #PetalFanClub. I have started this fund-raiser on behalf of Craig, Petal, and all those who care for them both to pay for the emergency surgery Petal needed. Petal Chester is a 2 year-old French Bulldog who leads an active life and makes friends where ever she goes. She likes to run, play in the park, swim, and spend time with her fans.
- Unfortunately, Petal's health took a sudden, scary turn for the worse. She woke a few days ago paralyzed in her hind legs and in pain. She was seen at an urgent care center and found to have compression on her spinal cord. She was given steroids and pain medication, but she remained paralyzed and had increased pain. Craig took her to the Samaritan's Veterinary clinic and her condition was assessed as dire. She needed surgery immediately before the damage to her spinal cord and nerves were irreversible. Craig was told that if she did not get surgery immediately, Petal's pain would remain unbearable and she would need to be put down. The vet arranged an immediate consultation at the Veterinary Neurology Center in Tustin, CA. Craig drove directly from that vet office to the specialty clinic, 2 hours away with Petal panting and yelping in pain the whole way. Craig said, "It was the longest 2 hours of my life." At the same time, Craig didn't know how much this would cost or how he would pay for it as specialty veterinary care is very expensive. He operated on faith and did the next right thing for Petal, which was to get her the care she emergently needed to save her life. Craig paid part of the deposit and a friend used his credit to pay the rest, but the surgery and immediate post-op care could be in the upper $15,000 range. This doesn't include the care leading up to the surgery or the care in her lengthy recovery period.
