Please Help Save Our Sweet Yorkie After a Attack
Hello kind-hearted friends and animal lovers,
Our family is reaching out with heavy hearts and a deep hope that compassion still lives strong in this world. On Thursday, May 15th, 2025, our beloved Yorkie, Max, was attacked in our own back yard by a dog we had recently rescued from the pound. What began as a beautiful act of kindness turned into a heartbreaking tragedy.
We adopted a 9 year old pit bull hound mix on 4/12/25 and had been slowing integrating her into the house hold and into Max’s life. We followed the steps the shelter gave us and used the information we read online. Everything seemed to be working until On 5/15 we were in the back yard like usually letting the dogs use the bathroom when all of a sudden she grabbed Max by the neck and started to violently shake him. We finally were able to have her drop him after what seemed like forever. And he was limp in our arms.
We then rushed him to the emergency vet where they did x rays and examined his full body. They kept him for an additional 4 hours to make sure there was no brain damage. The vet shaved part of his neck to show the marks from being clinched in the dogs mouth. The x rays showed a fracture in his neck. In addition he had some puncture wounds on his body head and a ripped ear. Along with a bloody nose and blood in his eyes. He doesn’t have the ability to use his front paws. So he just lays limp.
She released him to us with pain medicine and steroids to hopefully help him heal. He is suppose to be bed bound for 6 weeks only to get up to help him pee and poop and when he does we have to express his bladder and hold his neck still while holding him up so it’s like a 3 person job. But we will do anything for our baby boy.
She recommends he go to a specialist and get surgery. So that’s what we are asking for today is the money for the surgery along with any after care he might need. We don’t know the exact final cost so we are only asking for the range we were giving.
Max has been our faithful companion, our little shadow, and a cherished member of our family for years. His spirit is bright, his heart is pure, and his love for us—and for life—knows no bounds. After the attack, Max was rushed to the emergency vet where we learned the devastating news: he has suffered severe spinal damage and is now in urgent need of spinal surgery to survive and walk again.
The cost of the surgery, follow-up care, and rehabilitation is overwhelming—$20,000. As much as we wish we could shoulder this burden alone, we simply cannot. We already paid $1,000 we couldn’t afford when we brought him to the emergency vet. We had to open up a care credit card in order to pay this.
We never imagined we’d be in this position. But we believe in the power of community, in the kindness of strangers, and in the shared love for our furry companions. If you’ve ever loved a pet, if you’ve ever seen them in pain and wished you could take it away, we ask you—please help us give Max a fighting chance.
Every dollar counts. Every share helps. Every prayer is felt.
We upload the best pics we could but we can’t really move him to much or his neck so those are the angles we could get. We also uploaded the vet paperwork in showing are visit and the medicine he’s taking.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
With love and hope,
[yakima & Family]
