Luca has been special since the day he was born.

On April 1, 2020, we found a stray cat giving birth in our shed. Two of the kittens had passed, one being Luca!!! CPR, nose suction, and some rubbing, and this beautiful boy started this journey with us.

Overcoming Health Challenges

At only 1 year old, he was diagnosed with diabetes and was put on insulin. But again, this boy beat the odds and went into remission within a couple of months.

A Source of Comfort for Others

But more so, he's the one who comforts the other cats when they are sick or scared. Every time we have brought a foster kitty in, he's the one who makes them feel at home.

Facing New Health Battles

Recently, Luca has been incredibly lethargic and in a lot of pain. We took him to Woodcrest Veterinary Clinic, and it turns out he has severe dental disease (Grade 3 extractions needed) and requires urgent surgery.

The vet gave him a round of antibiotics, which provided some temporary relief, but now that the cycle is finished, the pain has flared right back up and my poor boy is lethargic all over again. It breaks my heart to see him like this. Usually, he is a vibrant and curious boy, but right now he is struggling and relying on Gabapentin just to sleep through the pain. Woodcrest Veterinary Clinic did a full evaluation, and the total estimate for his extractions, x-rays, and anesthesia comes out to just over $2,320. Pulling these affected teeth is the only permanent way to cure the infection and stop his suffering.

My husband and I are doing absolutely everything in our power to fund this ourselves—we are actively liquidating our personal assets, including our nice camera, a laptop, my horse tack, and even my horse trailer! We are more than willing to make these sacrifices to cover the costs, but selling big-ticket items takes time that Luca simply doesn't have. Because time is of the essence and he is actively in pain now, we are humbly asking for a little help from our community to bridge this gap and get him into the operating room ASAP.
