Help Grayson Heal and Return Home

On January 28, 2025, Grayson was at school, and the paraprofessional in his class noticed he was not breathing well. The school nurse called and said he needed to be taken to the ER. The doctors said these two ladies saved his life. When we got to the ER, the Wytheville Community Hospital took him directly in and started giving him oxygen, checking his heart rate, x-rays, and any test you can think of. They discovered he had Flu A and that the x-ray appeared to show an enlarged heart. They transferred him to Roanoke Carilion Hospital. When they got to Roanoke, the doctors there informed them he had a large mass in his chest from his right clavicle, going across his chest and wrapped around his heart. Roanoke then did a biopsy and a bone marrow test to see if it was malignant or benign. In the meantime, while waiting on the results, Roanoke decided to transfer him to UVA. The results came back that it is benign. On February 4, 2025, UVA did the surgery to remove the mass in his chest. They were able to get 95% of the mass; the rest was behind his rib cage and connected to his heart. His heart stopped beating during the surgery, so they chose to leave the 5 percent. When the physicians did the surgery, they said the mass was so large they accidentally cut the nerve to his diaphragm, causing his lung to not work. They were also told that he has contracted MRSA. On February 12, 2025, they decided to do a surgery to try to sew his muscles together in his diaphragm to see if this will help it heal. Grayson developed a high temperature overnight due to a UTI; they have now rescheduled the surgery for February 14, 2025. We are hopeful this surgery works; if not, the next step is a tracheotomy. UVA only allows one parent to stay each night. Because of Grayson having MRSA, they cannot stay at the Ronald McDonald House or the Hospitality House. Their only option is a hotel. In the pictures, you will see a pic of the mass taken from his chest; this piece was only 10% of the entire mass.

They have both exhausted their sick time and vacation time. We are trying to prevent either one of them from having to come home and go back to work until Grayson is healed and home. If the doctors send him home with a trach Lacey will not be able to return to work. We ask that if you are not able to give, to please share his story and ask that everyone pray for complete healing.
