Hello, earlier this year I met Skye on Lygon Street. She was holding a sign saying that she was 22 years old and pregnant. I asked her if she needed anything and she asked for fruit. So, I bought her fruit and when I came back, she told me her story. I received this text from her today: "Hey can u still help with gofund me page. Had my baby not even a few days ago, a little boy, I really need this gofund me page that'll help so much with expenses and long term accommodation for me and bubs and baby stuff everything practically everything <3" Her story (which for the sake of her privacy I will not share the specifics of) left me both angry and in awe. Angry because Skye was dealt one of the worst cards of hands I could imagine. Angry because of how deeply systemic the challenges in her life are. Angry because I had been born into a life full of doors and she has been given not one. But I was also left in awe, the grievances, challenges and trauma she has lived through would have left most people broken, hollow and spiritless but not Skye. Skye possesses some inexplicable resilience and some unwavering determination to make a better life for herself, to not follow the path of those around her. Skye is one of the most clear-headed humans I have ever crossed paths with. This fact alone speaks volumes about the heights she could reach with the right help. During our conversation, she showed me her art and expressed her yearning to find employment so that she could fund herself and hopefully, her baby. I watched her reluctantly and uncertainly accept money from people. She told me about how much she hated it, how much she hated asking and how much she hated taking. I know it was not an easy decision for her to ask for help through this GoFundMe campaign. As a 22-year-old facing an uncertain future, Skye needs our support now more than ever. With the right funding, she has the potential to be an amazing mother and provide a nurturing environment for her child. Your contribution, no matter how small, can make a world of difference in her life. By donating to this GoFundMe campaign, you are not just providing financial assistance; you are offering hope, stability, and a chance at a better future. Your generosity will help Skye secure long-term accommodation, cover the immediate expenses of raising a child, and enable her to pursue her passion for painting and eventually find employment. I deeply believe that together we could change both Skye and her baby boy’s life and enable her and her son to have a better future. With a safe and secure place to sleep, I will be able to help her write a resume and get a secure job. Every dollar counts, and your contribution will be sincerely appreciated. Thank you for reading thing and for considering supporting Skye in her time of need. Your kindness and generosity can make a profound impact on her life and give her the chance she so deserves.
