Hi my name is Natasha, I’m reaching out for support as my daughter is scheduled to undergo an exam under anesthesia to determine whether she has congenital glaucoma, a serious condition that can cause permanent vision loss if not treated quickly. During the procedure, doctors will check her eye pressure and assess her overall eye health. If they confirm the diagnosis, they plan to perform the necessary outpatient surgery immediately to protect her vision.

This journey has been incredibly overwhelming. From the beginning, I noticed major concerns with my daughter’s eyes—concerns that I later learned are major symptoms of glaucoma. I brought these concerns to her pediatrician, but they were dismissed. I was told not to worry until she turned one, because her eyes “weren’t fully developed yet” and everything was “normal.” I tried to trust that reassurance, even though something didn’t feel right.

Everything changed when my daughter began physical therapy. Her physical therapist immediately recognized that something was wrong and expressed concern for potential vision issues. When I told her that our pediatrician said there was nothing to worry about, she encouraged me to seek another opinion and even reached out to the pediatrician’s office herself. Thanks to her advocacy, we finally received a referral to a specialist—something that should have happened much sooner. Without her, we might still be unaware of how urgent this situation truly is.

Now, with the possibility of congenital glaucoma, time is not on our side.

Unfortunately, my insurance does not cover this procedure or the potential surgery that may follow, and the out-of-pocket cost is more than I can manage alone. I am doing everything I can to make sure she receives the care she needs right away, and that’s why I’m asking for help.
