Urgent Support for Lori's Housing Crisis

Hi, my name is Laura (Lori) Smith, and I have found myself and my little dog in an emergency for housing. I’m disabled on Social Security and am 30 days from living in my car.

I’ve lived with my boyfriend for four years, and we had a small argument over politics. We know to never talk politics around each other as one of us is a Republican and one of us is a Democrat. It’s worked so far. He decided to bring up the subject, and it got a little, just a little heated. I went downstairs to stop the talking and saw a text to pack up and get out. I’m shocked! I don’t know what to do or where to go. I don’t have family or friends that can take me in or help me financially. I find it awful how people are allowing politics to divide them from friends and family.

I’m trying to find a place around $1000 a month, if that even exists anymore. I’m looking at low-income housing, but there are long lists and the wait time is long. I’m used to paying my boyfriend $500 a month, which included utilities and cable.

I need approximately $1000 for the first month, $1000 approximately for the last month, $500 for the damage deposit, and $200 for the pet fee. I’ll also need funds to move, such as the truck and more moving costs. I have some bills, including medical bills, that I have to pay off before I move so I can afford the increased rent.

This happened yesterday on June 30th. I haven’t been able to face him, so I’m just staying downstairs. I’m very scared of what is going to happen to me and my dog. I’ve just been sitting here crying. I don’t have any money. I’ve never been in this position before. I’ve always worked hard and have been well off until I got disabled.

I’m so embarrassed to ask anyone for money. I’ve never asked for money before unless it was a quick loan where I quickly pay them back. This is very hard to do, so very hard.
